Dr. Eliezer Hernández is a resilient, highly motivated, and assertive individual who enjoys intellectual challenges. He was raised in a bilingual, multicultural environment. This has given him the determination and persistence to educate others with civility, respect, and acceptance in regard to lifestyles. Eli believes the most effective way of assisting others is through education. He is a career educator with experience as a teacher, mentor teacher, teacher-leader, assistant principal, principal, and district leader. His work spans from suburban to urban school districts.
WHO IS ELI HERNÁNDEZ?
Dr. Eliezer (Eli) Hernández is a career educator with experience as a teacher, mentor teacher, teacher-leader, assistant principal, principal, and district leader. His work spans from suburban to urban school districts. He served as an adjunct professor at LeMoyne College. His school-based roles range from elementary through high school.
Eli earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Science in Secondary Education from the State University of New York at Oswego. He received a Certificate of Advance Studies from LeMoyne College and earned his Doctorate in Executive Leadership from St. John Fisher University in 2020.
COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC SERVICE
For the past 23 years, Dr. Hernández has dedicated himself to education. As a Spanish teacher, he created a chapter of the National Spanish Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica) and organized international educational trips for his students. Through his involvement in various organizations, he coordinated fifteen successful school supply giveaways with over 500 backpacks for needy families at every event. Under his leadership, the NAACP has awarded over $35,000 in scholarships to students of color in Auburn and Cayuga County.
Dr. Hernández was elected to the Auburn Enlarged City School District Board of Education in 2011. During his tenure on the board, he actively participated in two superintendent searches, passed eleven school budgets and two capital projects, and served on the Long-Range Planning, Audit, and Policy Committees. Additionally, he served as Vice President of the Board of Education for two years.
Eli is a member of the Board of Directors for the National Math Foundation. He is the secretary, Spanish Language Delegate, and Board of Directors for the New York State Association for Bilingual Education (NYSABE).
